Diabetes Self-Management Program
Diet Screening and Nutritional Counseling
In the US, obesity has become an epidemic, affecting more than one-third of US adults AND children. Being overweight or obese can cause preventable illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart disease, stroke and more.
Boston Mountain Rural Health Center (BMRHC) wants to stop the rise in obesity and help Arkansas families live longer, healthier lives. We offer diet screening (assessing the foods you currently eat) and nutritional counseling, along with health screenings to check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels, which help determine your risk of developing heart disease and diabetes.
Our providers focus on education and prevention. Our goal is to help you learn how to make healthy food and lifestyle choices, so you can lose weight and prevent chronic, life-threatening illnesses. Once you make a commitment to change, we will be there with you every step of the way. BMRHC also offers discounted Wellness Center rates so you can enjoy the exercise facilities and take advantage of special weight loss programs.
If you have diabetes, nutrition and meal planning is a critical aspect of maintaining blood sugar control and managing the disease. Our providers will help you learn everything you need to know about diabetes nutrition so that you can be as healthy as possible and avoid medical complications.
We also help those who are underweight or malnourished. We understand that many adults and children in our area often do not get enough to eat, and we can help you access services to provide for your needs.
You are eligible for our nutrition services regardless of your ability to pay. Those who qualify may receive services at a discounted rate. Take the first step to better your health and call us to schedule an appointment with one of our providers today.
